Haute Hipsters Giving Back

The South Florida social scene can be challenging to navigate at times. As I get older I have no desire to go to stinky bars on a  friday night with odd twenty-somethings who speak a language I don't understand and wear their pants to ensure that a portion of thier undergarments are sure to be visible (this applies to the men as well as the women). As such, I have been seeking to expand my social circle by joining various social and charitable organizations to expose me to new people while contributing in some positive way to the community.

Through one such organizaiton I went to a great little event Friday night where I ran into a great mix of artsy hipsters and successful up-and-comers.  The event was held to promote the Ft. Lauderdale creative scene and to benefit The Broward Partnership for the Homeless. The setting was at a trendy and modern studio where local artists had the opportunity to display their work for sale, the DJ was spinning a dope beat, and the street performer-type hip hop dancers were entertaining and energetic!

The fashion choices varied from converse and t-shirts to stilettos and minis.

Spotted:  One of my recurring Style Civilian fashionistas looked haute and hip in her green skinny jeans and grey suede heels. Check out her Rachel Roy "Kindness is Always Fashionable" clutch (only $60) that reminds us that some things never go out of style! I love that Ms. Roy has designed such a hot bag that also gives back! Proceeds from the sale of the clutch benefit OrphanAid Africa, a non-profit organization that supports orphans and other vulnerable children in Ghana through programs in care reform, education, and development! Cute Kate Spade iphone case also makes a bold statment!

Steamy Summer Saturdays

Well it's definately Summer in South Florida! The temperature in my car this afternoon read 102! Wowsa!  Yes, I am indeed a South Florida native, but that is still HOT by anyone's standards!  So what's a fashionista to do?

How can you still look stylish and gorgeous while beating the summer heat? We certainly can't run Saturday errands in jeans and a T... I mean unless you are ok with being sweaty and sticky all day when that South Florida steam hits as soon as you walk outside! GROSS!  What about a casual night out on the town? It's still about 87 degrees in the evening...definately too hot for skinny jeans!  Look no further! In my weekend adventures I came across two lovely fashionistas who show us that you can look stylish and fierce while still beating the brutal summer heat.

Busy Saturday in the Sun:

Adorable printed shorts from Forever 21 paired with a simple cami, Tory Burch flips, and a camel color bag are just what the sun gods ordered! This fashionista is ready to grab a drink at starbucks, do some shopping, meet friends for lunch and squeeze in a mani-pedi while staying cool and comfortable! (PS-these shorts were only $17!)

Saturday Night Drinks:

I spotted this style civilian at one of South Florida's many trendy outdoor bistros.  She looks totally cool and comfortable in this charming little lace skirt paired with an off the shoulder top and a bright yellow Michael Kors bag.  This great summer look can transition to whatever the night may hold:  from a casual dinner, to cocktails with friends, or a summer concert!

Well done to both of these lovely Style Civilian Fashionistas!
Until next time... stay cool and stylish!
